We have a confession to make. We’re a little bit obsessed with J.Crew. Every month we do a little squeal when the new catalog arrives on our doorstep. Thus, this weeks Covet Fridays features an assortment of items from the J.Crew women’s fall 2010 collection.
In our opinion, revealing Creative Director Jenna Lyons’ influence on J.Crew to the public was the best move J.Crew could have ever made. It allows us to get behind the thinking of the new women’s collections each season. This fall, the vision was “Edie Beale goes to Girl Scout camp.” To read more about Lyons’ inspiration behind the collection and see a slideshow, visit Style.com.
Once again, this season highlights J.Crew’s exquisite eye for styling. We absolutely love how a lot of the pieces are simple and easy-to-wear on their own, yet when styled with other select items, tell an intricate story. Also, J.Crew doesn’t disappoint with its obsessive attention to texture. The pieces from this amazing fall collection are starting to trickle in stores, so we though we’d feature some of the pieces that we were particularly drawn to. Get them fast, some of the collection’s statement items are already sold out and waiting for reorder, such as the Cashmere Cocoon Pullover.
If you haven’t had the opportunity to feel this microspun pocket tank, go out right now and cop a feel. It is stunningly soft. Also, it sits casually on the body and has a flattering neckline for most body shapes.
The marled shawl-collar cardigan is making a comeback for its second season, which makes sense, since it was wildly popular last fall. It adds create texture and depth to an outfit. Plus, it has a cozy, slouchy fit to wear on those lazy days.
The toothpick cords are a fall staple. They create a modern silhouette with a rustic fabric, giving it a much-needed dose of youth.
We are a fan of anything that makes lounge wear look glamorous. The Merino Un-Sweat Pant is made of a fine knit, super soft wool, which makes them perfect for those crisp fall days. The tapered ankle give sit a chic edge, while the roomy silhouette makes it fit like sweats. We’re also digging the Wool Sunday Pant. Here’s a tip: upon purchase, ask the cashier for a cashmere ball. They are used to remove pilled wool. Though J.Crew does a remarkable job minimizing the threat of pills, it sometimes can be inevitable, so it’s worth the extra precaution.
We applaud J.Crew for having an uncanny ability to create understated sequins, often an oxymoron when applied to clothing. However, we absolutely love the way a seemingly one-note piece can be turned into multiple looks. Do we dare say that these sequined jersey bloomers can be worn like a favorite pair of jeans? What are your thoughts on this look?
This preview doesn’t even come close to the extent of pieces we are coveting from this collection. Don’t miss some of the highlights, such as J.Crew’s genius shoes and the new partnership with Cosabella, which creates chic lace intimates.
