People often ask me where to stay in Vancouver BC since there are so many options, depending on your group’s needs and what you want from your vacation. We go every year on our way to Whistler for our annual family ski trip, so I’ve become familiar with just about every neighborhood in the city.
Given Vancouver’s size, the place you stay can significantly impact your Vancouver experience. To help make sense of the myriad of options, I’ve come up with a list of my most-recommended spots to stay the next time you visit Vancouver BC!

Where to stay in Vancouver for first-time tourists
All of these spots are perfectly located for exploring the best parts of Vancouver if it’s your first time visiting.
Blue Horizon Hotel
link to book | neighborhood: West End (get directions) | price: ~$150/nt | hot tub | pet friendly

The Blue Horizon Hotel is a contemporary hotel located directly on Robson Street near many of the best restaurants in Vancouver BC, along with the best shops. Corner guest rooms include a full balcony with views of the Vancouver skyline, and all rooms feature flat screen TVs and huge windows for letting in the natural light.
First time visitors will appreciate how centrally located this hotel is. It’s 2.4 miles from Granville Island and a short drive from English Bay and Stanley Park. When you’re done for the day, relax in the hot tub or steam room!
Barclay House Bed and Breakfast
link to book | neighborhood: West End (get directions) | price: ~$100/nt

The Barclay House is a historic bed and breakfast located in the heart of downtown Vancouver. It’s within walking distance of Stanley Park and a short drive from Chinatown. Since parking is free, you can rent a car if you choose, but you’ll rarely have to use it.
Despite being older accommodations, the B&B boasts modern amenities like TVs and coffee makers. But there is still that old world charm. Guests are welcomed with freshly baked cookies, and a delicious three-course breakfast is served each morning.
The Ivy on Parker Guest House
link to book | neighborhood: Grandview-Woodland (get directions) | price:~$275/nt

The Ivy on Parker is a four-star, adults-only guest house that includes a sun terrace, garden, kitchenettes, and spa baths. Staying here puts you three miles from the Pacific Coliseum and Rogers Arena. Plus, the rooms are cute. Think modern meets classical, with plenty of amenities and high-end appliances.
Where to stay in Vancouver without a car
If you want to prioritize exploring the city by foot, here’s where to stay in Vancouver.
Granville Island Hotel
link to book | neighborhood: Granville Island (get directions) | price: ~$150/nt | pet friendly

The Granville Island Hotel is perfect for newcomers who want to be close to the action. It’s best known for the public market that’s essentially an even bigger version of Pike Place Market. Perusing the numerous food vendors is one of my favorite things to do in Vancouver BC.
As for the hotel, it’s beautiful, modern, and overlooks the water (as one would hope, being on an island and all). There’s a restaurant, pool, fitness center, and everything on the island is a short 5-10 minute walk away.
Rosewood Hotel Georgia
link to book | neighborhood: Downtown (get directions) | price: ~$400/nt | hot tub | pet friendly

When you’re traveling on foot, suddenly that two-mile walk feels a lot longer, so staying central is important. The Rosewood is directly across from the Vancouver Art Gallery and a short walk from the Robson Street shopping district. Oh, and there’s even a complimentary shuttle service to and from downtown (subject to availability).
As for the hotel, it is Gatsby-esque and decked out to the nines with amenities. There’s an indoor saltwater lap pool, a spa, and a 24-hour fitness center. Each room even has heated bathroom floors.
Wedgewood Hotel & Spa
link to book | neighborhood: Downtown (get directions) | price: ~$200/nt | pet friendly

The Wedgewood is one of the most beautiful hotels in the city and gives major Gossip Girl vibes. The rooms are impeccably clean, the beds are cloud-like, and the customer service is pristine. There’s a full-service spa, fitness center, and many of the rooms offer private balconies.
Those traveling sans vehicle will want to take advantage of the transportation service to the airport, cruise ship terminal, or train station. You can even arrange transport to Whistler via the concierge, for an additional fee.
Where to stay in Vancouver with kids
Have little ones in tow? Here are places to stay in Vancouver that would be perfect for families.
Kool Kits Garden Suite
link to book | neighborhood: Kitsilano | price: ~$480/nt | bedrooms: 2 | bathrooms: 2

If I were traveling with 1-2 kids, this is where I’d want to stay. While compact in size, it has all the bells and whistles like a private courtyard with a BBQ, ample bathroom space, a 4K TV, and a 5-burner gas range stove. Plus, this home is located in one of the nicer areas to stay, being close to amazing restaurants and only a 20-minute walk to the beach.
Gentle Hideaway
link to book | neighborhood:West End | price: ~$823/nt | bedrooms: 2 | bathrooms: 1+ | hot tub | pet friendly

This quaint hideaway would be perfect for a small family hoping to be centrally located while still having a cozy retreat between outings. It’s nestled in a quiet courtyard on a tree-lined drive, and there’s a charming patio perfect for sipping your morning coffee. The kids will appreciate being a short drive from English Bay and Stanley Park.
Modern Downtown Suite
link to book | neighborhood: East Vancouver | price: ~$253/nt | bedrooms: 2 | bathrooms:1

A “modern suite” may not exactly scream kid-friendly, but with a kids’ play area, board games, and children’s toys (available by request), the kiddos should feel welcome. Plus there’s free parking, a full kitchen, and in-site laundry to make mom and dad happy campers.
Where to stay in Vancouver, BC on a budget
If you want to put your money more toward experiences vs. accommodations, here are good budget-friendly spots to stay in Vancouver.
The Burrard
link to book | neighborhood: Downtown (get directions) | price: ~$270/nt | pet friendly

The Burrard is an eclectic-styled hotel that resembles a mid-century modern beachside hotel despite being in a major city. The rooms are clean and minimalist, and there’s a large outdoor courtyard equipped with ping pong tables. Staying here puts you minutes away from the Robson Street shopping district, and you can even rent free cruiser bikes from the lobby.
Featuring an outdoor lounge and on-site coffee shop, this hotel in downtown Vancouver is three blocks from the Robson Street shopping area. The hotel offers free WiFi and free Brodie cruiser bike rentals.
Sutton Place Hotel Vancouver
link to book | neighborhood: Downtown (get directions) | price: ~$170/nt | hot tub | pet friendly

The Sutton is another centrally located hotel that does not give low-budget. The marble flooring, gallery lighting, indoor pool, and plush bedding is more luxurious than some of the five-star hotels I’ve stayed at. Plus there’s an oyster bar, wine shop, and a full-service spa to entertain yourself.
Hotel Belmont Vancouver
link to book | neighborhood: Downtown (get directions) | price: ~$170/nt | pet friendly

Okay, Hotel Belmont wins for having the coolest lobby. It’s retro, with pops of color and eye catching art at every corner. The rooms are equally as unique, and the hotel bar looks like the perfect spot for a night cap. Being downtown keeps you centrally located, and there are free bike rentals via the lobby.
Where to stay in Vancouver with a group
Traveling with a lot of people? Here are accommodations perfect for large-sized parties.
Posh Kitsilano Home
link to book | neighborhood: Kitsilano | price: ~$724/nt | bedrooms: 3 | bathrooms: 2 | hot tub

This quaint, immaculately-clean three bedroom would be perfect for a few couples looking to explore the big city, then retreat to a charming home. It’s located in the safe and locals-vibe neighborhood of West Kitsilano and is minutes away from downtown, Granville Island, and multiple beaches.
Golf Villa
link to book | neighborhood: Kerrisdale | price:~$711/nt | bedrooms: 5 | bathrooms: 4+ | pet friendly

If you’re traveling with a big group of close friends or couples, do yourself a favor and book this villa. The place is massive, and there’s something for everyone: a mini golf course, a pool table, a full gym, and a theater room. If you’re the one booking it, make sure to call dibs on the main bedroom (it has the tub and steam shower!).
Downtown Penthouse
link to book | neighborhood: Downtown | price: ~$1,035/nt | bedrooms: 3 | bathrooms: 2+ | hot tub | pet friendly

Okay, this penthouse will cost you a pretty penny, but it’s so worth it, especially if you’re footing the bill with a couple of friends. For starters, it’s two stories and includes a private terrace with a hot tub that overlooks the Vancouver skyline. The on-site fitness center and sauna are open for use, and you’re conveniently located in the heart of Vancouver’s downtown. Honestly, you’d never be able to get me out of this place!
