Sustainable Fashion Event: CRAVEgreen 2011

Adria here. Last Wednesday my sister and I went to the CRAVEgreen event at URBAN enoteca in SODO. The event was created as a way to raise awareness for sustainable fashion and beauty products, giving local eco businesses the opportunity to represent their organizations in hopes of attracting new clients. There were tables set up throughout the venue with salons, stores, wineries, and spas pitching their wares.

At first, we were a bit disappointed. Prior to the event, it was advertised that guests would be able to receive free spa/beauty services and sample wine and food (maybe we completely made these claims up, but I would have sworn it). However, when we got there, we soon realized wine was not included. Oh well…no biggie. After sampling some wine, the next table we went to was for a salon. We were excited that they were giving manicures, but when we went up to them they said it was $8. That’s not much for a manicure mind you, but that was the second impression we got after realizing the wine wasn’t free, so it got us thinking, “Shit, maybe we have to pay for everything.”

Fortunately, as we made our rounds, we realized there were a lot of tables offering free services. And though the wine wasn’t free, the food was (they had these amazing sausage, mustard, and slaw subs on pretzel buns. To die for.). We actually ended up having a really good time. The highlight was getting a free eyebrow sugaring service from Sugar Sugar. I’d never been sugaring, and a while ago I bought a Groupon for a sugaring service that I had yet to grow the courage to redeem. Fortunately, it didn’t scar me for life, so I will be using that purchase soon enough.

We also got a free hand treatment from Sweetlily Salon and an oxygen facial from Elaina Spa. That was a new experience for me; I get many facials a year, but never had one with pure oxygen blown into my pores. The jury is still out as to its effectiveness, but it definitely was relaxing.

All-in-all, it was a really good event. Changes I would have made? Probably be a little more clear as to what is included. I would have much rather paid a little more and received complementary wine. Also, there was a fashion show, which was a fun opportunity to prove the message you can still be fashionable and sustainable. However, I thought they missed the mark when trying to hit this point home. They had designs from a few retailers/designers. However, the only ensembles I perceived as fashion forward were the pieces designed by glam.spoon. I think they could have put looks together a bit better, but overall, I think the show and event were a success.

Thank you to CRAVEgreen for putting on a good event and helping raise awareness for sustainable fashion, all while supporting local businesses and donating the proceeds to Passage Northwest, which encourages girls to find empowerment through arts and the environment. Here are some photos from the fashion show and event, highlighting my favorite looks.

Also, notice the one photo not on the runway: that was a girl I stalked all night waiting to get a photo of her. I absolutely loved her look! Probably because we had the same look and color palette going on ๐Ÿ™‚ But either way, she was adorable.
